Pumpkin Picking Near Newcastle
Come October, the fields around Newcastle fill with pumpkins. Within a short drive of the city there are several genuine pick-your-own patches, from vast open fields with a hundred thousand pumpkins to friendly farm attractions where the picking comes with a full family day out. Here are the best, with what each offers and how far it is. The popular ones run timed, ticketed sessions that sell out, so this is one to book ahead. Dates change every year, so always check each farm's website for the current season.
Whitehouse Farm Centre
Morpeth, Northumberland
About 15 miles north of Newcastle
Part of the farm's big 'Frighthouse Farm' Halloween event, with both an indoor and an outdoor pumpkin patch (so it runs whatever the weather) plus a full family day out of animals, play areas and a go-kart track. Usually one free pumpkin per child. It is the easiest option if you want the pumpkins and a proper day out in one place.
Brocksbushes Farm
Stocksfield, near Corbridge
About 15 miles west of Newcastle
One of the North East's biggest and best-known pumpkin patches, growing well over 100,000 pumpkins that you pick straight from the field. Alongside the picking there are carving tents, mazes, children's rides and evening 'Twilight' sessions. It is a ticketed experience that sells out every year, so book well ahead.
East Grange
High Shincliffe, Durham
About 15 miles south of Newcastle
A large genuine pick-your-own field, around 20 acres with well over 100,000 pumpkins in 17 varieties and 6 colours, from small to giant. There are atmospheric torchlight evening sessions too. Entry is charged per car or group and is usually redeemable against the pumpkins you buy, and must be pre-booked.

A friendly small-animal farm running an annual October 'Pumpkin Week', with an outdoor pick-your-own field to carve or paint alongside a spooky castle maze, barrel rides, scarecrow-making and a ghoul hunt. Tickets are dated and best booked online.
Broxfield Farm Pumpkin Patch
near Alnwick, Northumberland
About 30 miles north of Newcastle
A countryside pick-your-own patch that reopens for several weekends each autumn, where you carve on-site or take your pumpkins home, with a spooky castle maze, tractor rides, scarecrow workshops and street food. Worth the drive if you are combining it with a day in Alnwick.
